Inspiration Want to drive growth? Do what Nordic Valley is doing.

photo of the author Gregg Blanchard

I love Nordic Valley for so many reasons.
  • It’s 7 minutes from my house
  • The furthest you can park from a lift is about 100 yards
  • I never wait in a lift line
  • Season passes for me, Kim, and two kiddos cost a total of $438
  • It’s a super fun mountain with great skiing

It solves so many problems we believe is inhibiting growth in our industry. You want folks to start skiing? Keep skiing? Not be worried about price or complexity or whatever?

Help make sure they know about places like Nordic Valley.

Spring, Spring, Spring
While we have efforts to grow skiing throughout the season, more and more folks are asking what we can do in spring when the sun is shining and weather is warm and snow is soft.

Well, Nordic Valley might have the answer.

From now through the end of the season (they’ll run Friday-Sunday the last two weeks of March), you can get lift tickets starting at $19 (no day has sold out of that price tier yet). That alone is great, but that comes with:

  • A $10 resort credit
  • Rentals for $10
  • Lessons for $10

Just think about this for a second. For less than $40, beginner skiers are going to get the full, classic skiing experience. They’ll learn, they’ll be on good equipment, they’ll have lunch in the lodge, the sun will be shining.

More importantly think about what they WON’T be.

They won’t be frozen, the sun won’t be behind the mountain at 3pm, they won’t be eating a cold sack lunch on a frozen picnic bench, they won’t be frustrated by flat light, they won’t be as likely to be trying to teach themselves or using borrowed, poorly-fitting equipment.

Yield vs Experience
A lot of folks have been asking lately:

“Why aren’t we doing more to drive growth in the spring when conditions are perfect for learning?”

Well, Nordic Valley is doing just that. Is it a financial gold mine for the resort? Probably not.

But hundreds or perhaps thousands of casual and/or never-ever skiers are going to come to Nordic Valley this spring. They’re going to have an awesome experience. They’re gonna eat good food, gain some confidence, ski soft snow, and bask in the sunshine.

In other words, they’ll be given the best chance of having an awesome, ideal skiing experience because so many potential hurdles have been removed.

And that, my friends, is a heckuva way to gain some fans for the experience you sell.
