Nick Haggerty is a Strategic Account Manager at Inntopia and has years of experience working in account management, sales, and product development while specializing in digital advertising, marketing, and media. He lives in Stowe, Vt. with his wife Sarah and their son Larson. At this time, like all Inntopians, he is quarantined and working from home.
Pascale: What are the things that have given you the most pleasure during the pandemic?
Nick: Each Friday afternoon my wife has been baking chocolate chip cookies with my 1½ year old son. He brings a cookie up to my desk when they are done. That did not happen at the office and just kills me every time.
Pascale: How has working from home improved, or hurt, your relationship with the partners you deal with regularly?
Nick: I have a desk in the loft of our apartment – it is an open office floor plan so my whole family participates on conference calls. Larson is getting really good at Identifying RTP header codes and Siriusware DCIs.
Pascale: What are you mainly focusing on to stay healthy during the quarantine?
Nick: Seven-minute workouts on YouTube – awesome body weight workouts you can slam out quickly. It’s just starting to get nice enough to get outside for a cruiser ride.
Pascale: Do you volunteer for any non-profit?
Nick: I volunteer and serve on the Board for the Stowe Weekend of Hope, a health and wellness retreat for cancer survivors and their caregivers hosted in Stowe Vermont. For 20 years the community of Stowe has come together to provide a full weekend of education, health, and wellness. I volunteer because cancer will eventually touch all our lives. Its impact is far reaching, and it takes a community to find the support and strength to fight, not just for the person with cancer, but for the caregivers as well. The Inntopia Commerce platform, through Stowe Area Association, has powered the lodging donations on behalf of the Stowe community for over 10 years. I am amazed at all the ways the Inntopia Commerce platform can be applied as a tool to build not just a commerce exchange, but a community platform. Stowe Weekend of Hope is a perfect example of this. If you are interested or want to learn about Stowe Weekend of Hope check out www.stowehope.org.
Pascale: What is the most challenging thing that you have ever done?
Nick: I would say the most challenging thing I have ever done was to be there for my wife while she gave birth to our son…and I did not even do anything! There was never such a powerful, engaged, and utterly helpless feeling.
Pascale: Growing up, what sports, activities, or past times occupied most of your time?
Nick: Growing up I played a lot of team sports. Hockey. Soccer. I love them and still play in beer leagues today. My first job was as a caddie at my local golf course when I was 12 years old. I got lessons as part of the gig, so golf has always been a big part of my life. But by far, my favorite past time is skiing. I was lucky enough to grow up in Stowe and apparently was on the hill when I was 1 ½ years old. I don’t remember learning to ski, it’s just something I always did. After college, it also drove my decision to live in Colorado, and then North Lake Tahoe. Mountains and skiing are in my blood. I now live back in my original hometown of Stowe and took my son skiing for the first time this winter – he is 1½ years old. I am pretty stoked on that.
Pascale: Favorite actor, musician, politician, activist, etc.?
Nick: John Oliver has been a gem for years. His Last Week Tonight is on fire. I am also enjoying Seth Myers recently. Scathing satire and political commentary is really doing it for me right now.
Pascale: Do you have a memorable/aha! moment or experience at Inntopia while dealing with a partner?
Nick: I had an aha! moment when a partner that was on a resort marketing team asked me straight up, ‘What is Inntopia?’ We had been working together for quite a while so that question surprised me. Turns out that it can be a difficult question to answer because between Commerce and Marketing Cloud, the platform does so much. Inntopia lives at the intersection between your guests and your underlying hospitality technology stack. What I realized is that Inntopia allows you to elevate above your operational systems to meet your guests where their planning and purchase decisions are made. Simple as that.
Pascale: Something unique about yourself that most people don’t know?
Nick: I was bitten by a beaver when I was a kid. As far as I know, I am the only one that this has ever happened to. If this has happened to you, please let me know. We can start a support group.
