With Inntopia’s ability to sell live inventory from every system in a single interface, it’s probably no surprise that our booking engine and call center application process more than $1B in bookings every year. When we set out last year to develop a new design for our booking engine we did so wanting to lean into those strengths.
Here are four key changes that make this design our best yet.
The first and most important change is that we standardized the layout across every page in the booking engine. This makes it seamless for guests to navigate through all the different product types they need including lodging, dining, lift tickets, tee times, rentals, and merchandise. Here’s one of the wireframes we started with as we worked to give every element in a clear, consistent home.
As you may notice, this design also standardizes the location of filters, date fields, and sorting so it’s easy for guests to navigate through every page in the booking engine.
Part of that standardization included finding a visible, accessible location for product categories so it’s easy for guests to toggle between all the things they need for their trip. For the new design, this is right up top between the logo and the main content area.
This location reinforces the idea that the guest can shop for more than just the category they are currently browsing and makes it easy to build a complete itinerary on both desktop and mobile.
A vacation can be a complex thing, so we wanted to make the booking experience as light and clean as possible. You’ll see this in the first resort to go live in the booking engine, Bavarian Inn.
The consistent layout helps guests always know where they are and the clean design helps ensure there’s little to distract them from completing their booking.
A good portion of visual identify on resort websites is found in the colors and backgrounds of the top 100-200 pixels so we wanted to ensure that this area was easy to align to those branding concepts.
This header paired with strong accent and button colors throughout the booking engine keep that theme from the first pixel to the last without adding clutter or competition with the booking flow.
Finally, we spent a lot of time dialing in the details of this design on mobile. Categories are right up top with a dropdown label that drives home the idea that they can book more than what they’re currently browsing.
We also wanted to keep that clean, modern design and easy access to their itinerary. This design checked both boxes without taking up too much real estate so product details are never too far down the page.
We’re excited about this new design and the direction it’s moving our booking engine. If you’re a current Inntopia customer and want to try the new design, contact the Customer Care team – customercare@inntopia.com – or reach out to your account manager.
