Business Intelligence (BI) Product Manager

Description

The BI Product Manager is responsible for working with the business to define strategic goals and requirements which drive technical implementation. The primary responsibilities of the BI Product Manager are to create and maintain the thematic- and epic-level roadmaps and feature product backlog for the Inntopia Business Intelligence line of business. Ongoing prioritization and advocating for data-driven feature development, including the voice of customer, and ensuring teams stay focused on the highest-value development items are critical success factors.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of ongoing collaboration with stakeholders to prioritize such work over reactive work, such as the latest “shiny object”, contractual commit, or anecdotal, emotionally-based decision making. Doing so will require strong leadership skills, communication, and listening skills, as well as the ability to proactively liaise between technical teams and stakeholders, both internal and external. In addition, the BI PM is responsible for supporting the VP of Product Management with market and competitive analysis to demonstrate existing and future market demand and ROI for strategic initiatives.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Required Expertise

Candidate must have 5+ years of experience in most, if not all, of the following:

  • Previous success growing a young product line
  • Creation of strategic roadmaps (theme/initiative level and epic level)
  • Creation, prioritization, and ongoing grooming of feature-level product backlog
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, and a track record of building relationships between technical and non-technical users
  • Experience with fast-paced Agile development environment
  • Outstanding strategic, visionary, analytical, and quantitative skills
  • Refined written communication skills
  • Comfortable working closely with clients, Product Owners, and Engineering to ensure backlog is consistently groomed, ready to work, and actionable
  • Proficient at developing collaborative relationships with internal and external customers
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting content to C-levels

Responsibilities:

  • Own both the strategic roadmap and the product feature backlog to ensure all feature requests are represented and continuously groomed and prioritized based on the Voice of the Customer
  • Communicate your Roadmap and Feature Backlog thoughtfully (it is available for everyone is the company to see) and ensure the organization is clear on how backlog features align with our strategic goals
  • Review feature product enhancement requests and respond in a timely, professional and consistent manner any action related to the request, which may include a rejection of the request, and the reason why
  • Write Product Request Documentation and assist the Product Owners/engineering teams with business requirements when needed
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert on the BI line of business to internal and external stakeholders
  • Understand how analytic tools help drive product decisions, and use data to initiate new product initiatives
  • Partner closely with VP Product Management and Engineering team on process improvement, goals, and deliverables
  • Work with VP Product Management to stay on top of competitive environment and best practices
  • Work with clients directly to identify areas of potential competitive advantage, as well as opportunities to develop innovative solutions for areas which are underserved in the current product offering

Software Tools

Familiarity with product management, Agile software development, and SaaS applications

  • Aha! or similar roadmapping applications
  • Office 365
  • Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services (formerly Visual Studio Online)
  • Microsoft PowerBI or similar reporting tools/visualization applications
  • Atlassian Confluence or similar knowledge management/document management applications

  • Financial analysis, including revenue and yield management
  • Data analytics, data modeling, and visual and narrative presentation of data
  • Travel/Hospitality/Ski destination industry experience
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework / SAFe
  • SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
  • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
